Producers of Spirited Away at the London Coliseum are extending the show’s run for five weeks due to demand.
The show opens at the London Coliseum on 30 April 2024, and was due to end on 20 July, but will now run until 24 August 2024.
That means that an additional 90,000 tickets are now going on sale at the giant London Coliseum, home of English National Opera.
Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning Spirited Away animated movie, created by legendary animator and director Hayao Miyazaki, has been re-imagined for the stage by Toho Theatrical Department and Olivier and Tony Award-winning director John Caird (Les Misérables).
The show had a successful tour of Japan in 2022, and the original Japanese cast including Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi, who play Chihiro, will perform in London in Japanese, with English captions.
A live orchestra will play the magnificent film score by Joe Hisaishi arranged by Brad Haak (Mary Poppins), and the show will have a set design by Jon Bausor (Bat Out of Hell), puppets designed by Toby Olié (Pinocchio – National Theatre), choreography by Shigehiro Ide (NODA MAP Series), and costumes by Sachiko Nakahara.
Spirited Away tells the enchanting tale of Chihiro who while traveling to a new home with her family, stumbles into a world of fantastic spirits ruled over by the sorceress Yubaba. When her parents are turned into pigs and she is put to work in a magical bathhouse, Chihiro must use her wits to survive in this strange new place, find a way to free her parents, and return to the normal world.
The show is produced by TOHO Co., Ltd. and PW Productions Ltd.
