A video has dropped of Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma talking about the new site-specific production Shakespeare’s Macbeth, which has started its run in Liverpool.

Directed by Simon Godwin, the huge new production is playing at The Depot in Liverpool, which is usually used as a film and TV studio.

In the video, the two actors talk about how the production is set within a wasteland of charred trees, blackened rubble and a burned-out car for this immersive new production that literally recreates a war zone.

Ralph Fiennes also told the BBC that hopefully the set gives the audience “a sense of the destruction of war – the devastation and the chaos and the mess and the horror”, and that the production will take people out of their comfort zone.

Tony and BAFTA Award-winning actor Ralph Fiennes stars as Macbeth, and Olivier Award-winner Indira Varma as Lady Macbeth.

The cast also includes Ben Allen as Ross, Ewan Black as Malcolm, Levi Brown as Angus, Jonathon Case as Seyton, Danielle Fiamanya as Second Witch, Keith Fleming as King Duncan/Siward, Michael Hodgson as Second Murderer, Lucy Mangan as First Witch, Jake Neads as First Murderer/Donalbain, Richard Pepper as Lennox, Steffan Rhodri as Banquo, Rose Riley as Menteith, Lola Shalam as Third Witch, Rebecca Scroggs as Lady Macduff/Doctor, Ethan Thomas as Fleance, and Ben Turner as Macduff.
