Behind-the-scenes photos have been released of rehearsals for the Almeida’s forthcoming musical Cold War, based on the Oscar-nominated movie.
Based on Paweł Pawlikowski’s acclaimed film, the musical is adapted for the stage by Conor McPherson (Girl from the North Country, The Weir) and directed by Rupert Goold (Dear England).
The new show features traditional Polish songs from the film, plus some stirring choral arrangements, and music from Grammy Award-winner Elvis Costello.
Cold War’s cast includes Anya Chalotra, Elliot Levey and Luke Thallon, alongside Ali Goldsmith, Ryan Goscinski, Elliot Harper, Ediz Mahmut, Anastasia Martin, Alžbeta Matyšáková, Jordan Metcalfe, Katarina Novkovic, Sophie Maria Wojna and Alex Young. Â
Cold War is an epic love story about passion, redemption and the path to freedom, set against the Cold War, when Europe was at its most divided.
The creative team also includes Music Supervisor, Orchestrator and Arranger Simon Hale; Choreographer Ellen Kane; Set Designer Jon Bausor; Costume Designer Evie Gurney; Lighting Designer Paule Constable; Sound Designer Sinéad Diskin; Musical Director Jo Cichonska; and Casting Director: Amy Ball CDG.
Cold War will run from 30 November 2023 to 27 January 2024 at the Almeida Theatre in London.
