Details are coming in for the major new London revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express – back in London in 2024.
This new production of Starlight Express promises to fully immerse audiences inside a world of speed, song and storytelling.
The production was first announced on 19 September 2023, and will be directed by Luke Sheppard, and run at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in 2024.
The Starlight Auditorium
A purpose-built, specially designed “Starlight Auditorium” is currently being built at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, with early views of the seating plan showing skate tracks running around the whole auditorium.
The seats inside the racing track are called First Class Carriage Seats. Please note: These seats DO NOT move.

Starlight Express London Dates and Times
Starlight Express is initially booking from 8 June 2024, to 16 February 2025 at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in London.
The show will play on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, with evening performances at 7.30pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays; and matinee performances on Thursday and Saturdays at 2.30pm, and Sundays at 1pm and 5.30pm.
Who is in the cast of Starlight Express?
The cast will be 40 actors, who will whizz around and above the audience on roller skates.
There’s no news on casting for the show, which will be announced soon.
The main characters of the show are: Rusty, Pearl, Electra, Greaseball, Poppa, Dinah, Duvay and Buffy.
What are the songs in Starlight Express?
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s songs in the show include AC/DC, Only He, Make Up My Heart, Light at the End of the Tunnel and the iconic Starlight Express.
The show has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe.

Who are the creative team of Starlight Express?
The production will be directed by Luke Sheppard (&Juliet, The Little Big Things).
Joining Luke Sheppard in the creative team are the show’s original choreographer Arlene Phillips as creative dramaturg, choreographer Ashley Nottingham (Pacific Overtures), who will design new choreography for the show; and set designer Tim Hatley (Back to the Future), video designer Andrzej Goulding (Life of Pi), costume designer Gabriella Slade (Six), lighting designer Howard Hudson (&Juliet) and sound designer Gareth Owen (MJ the Musical) with new orchestrations and musical supervision by Matthew Brind.
What is the story of Starlight Express?
The story is about a child’s train set that magically comes to life. With the engines racing to become the fastest in the world, Rusty the steam train has little hope of winning until he is inspired by the legend of the ‘Starlight Express’.
When did Starlight Express originally premiere?
The original production of Starlight Express opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London in March 1984, directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Arlene Phillips. The show closed in January 2002, having run for over 7,400 performances.
