Charity The Actors Benevolent Fund (ABF) is set to launch a new podcast, with the first series covering a variety of complex mental health topics.
The ABF is the 135 year old charity that supports actors and stage managers experiencing hardship due to injury, illness, or old age.
Topics covered in their inaugural podcast series include dealing with rejection, performance anxiety, neuroinclusivity, and ageing, and feature a number of stage and screen actors including Joanna Lumley, Tanya Reynolds, Giles Terera, Omari Douglas, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Marilyn Cutts, and Andrew Jarvis.
The actors share their experiences of the industry, and are joined by a professional therapist or coach to give useful advice on dealing with the topic at hand.
Joanna Lumley introduces each episode, which promises to feature honest, heart-felt, funny and moving stories from seasoned actors sharing their experiences, struggles, and insights.
The 6 episodes in the first season are:
- Performance anxiety with Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education, Emma) and therapist Fiona Macbeth
- Rejection with Omari Douglas (It’s A Sin, A Little Life, Cabaret) and coach Lisa Marie Hall
- Ageing with Julie Hesmondhalgh (Coronation Street, Broadchurch) and Andrew Jarvis (RSC, Lord of the Rings)
- Identity with Giles Terera (Clyde’s, Hamilton, Othello), Marilyn Cutts (Fascinating Aida, Les Miserables) and therapist Fiona Macbeth
- Neuroinclusivity with Katie Heath and coach Lisa Marie Hall (aka “the wives”!)
- Unpacking Therapy with Mary Burch
The first episode is out on 1 November2023, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible, and YouTube, with a new episode dropping each week.
