Jean-Claude Grumberg’s best-selling French language novella The Most Precious of Goods is getting a stage adaptation, coming to London’s Marylebone Theatre in January 2024.

Directed and translated by Nicolas Kent, the play will run at the Marylebone Theatre from 22 January to 3 February 2024, to coincide with National Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2024.

The show will also have two preview performances at JW3 in London on 15 and 16 January 2024.

The Most Precious of Goods will star Allan Corduner (The Motive and the Cue, Tár, Topsy-Turvy), and the production will feature a live score performed by acclaimed cellist Gemma Rosefield.

Joining Kent in the creative team are: Design by Carly Brownbridge, Projected Photography by Judy Goldhill and Lighting by Matt Eagland.

The story is set in Winter 1943, in a forest in war-torn Eastern Europe. A poor woodcutter’s wife finds a little bundle thrown into the snow from a moving goods’ train, and it contains something for which she has always yearned, but…

Told with a fairy tale-like lyricism, the play is billed as a gripping story of love and hope, set against the terrible backdrop of the Holocaust.
