The Almeida Theatre in London will stage the world premier stage adaptation of the Academy Award-nominated film Cold War.
Based on Paweł Pawlikowski’s acclaimed film, Cold War is an epic love story spanning the decades and breadth of Europe at its most divided.
Featuring traditional Polish songs from the film, stirring choral arrangements, and music from Grammy Award-winner Elvis Costello, the film is adapted for the stage by Conor McPherson (Girl from the North Country, The Weir) and will be directed by Rupert Goold.
Anya Chalotra, Elliot Levey and Luke Thallon are set to star in this compelling story of passion, redemption, and the journey to be free.
Almeida Artistic Director Rupert Goold said: “When I first saw Paweł Pawlikowski’s film Cold War, I was swept away by its beauty, passion and style. Its theatricality struck me as ripe for a stage adaption. So, I’m incredibly excited to be presenting Conor McPherson’s adaptation, with music by Elvis Costello.”

Cold War will run from Thursday 30 November 2023 until Saturday 27 January 2024 at the Almeida Theatre in London.
The Almeida also announced today its acclaimed production of Spring Awakening will be shown in selected cinemas in the UK this November.
Next month Rupert Goold is bringing his acclaimed production of Dear England by James Graham to the Prince Edward Theatre in London from 9 October 2023, starring Joseph Fiennes.
