Rachel McAdams to star in Broadway Premiere of Mary Jane in April 2024

Academy Award Nominee Rachel McAdams will star in the Broadway premiere of Mary Jane, a play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Amy Herzog.

Running from April 2, 2024 at Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, The Spotlight star will play a single mother in an impossible situation in Amy Herzog’s captivating, affecting and compassionate play.

The New York Times calls Mary Jane “the most profound of Herzog’s many fine plays.” And The New Yorker raves, “beautiful and remarkable… Herzog has made theatre that shines.” Directing is the acclaimed Anne Kauffman (The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window).

Rachel McAdams is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after and respected actors. Her films include Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret; Game Night; Thomas McCarthy’s critically acclaimed Spotlight, alongside Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo; Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris; Roger Michell’s Morning Glory opposite Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford; The Time Traveler’s Wife; Nick Cassavettes’ The Notebook and Mean Girls.

Amy Herzog’s recent work includes 4000 Miles – recently staged at Chichester Festival Theatre in England starring Eileen Atkins – and the recent Tony-nominated adaptation of A Doll’s House starring Jessica Chastain.

Captivating, affecting and compassionate, it’s the story of a single mother in an impossible family situation. Faced with seemingly insurmountable odds, Mary Jane relies on unflagging optimism and humor, along with the wisdom of the women around her who have become a makeshift family, to take on each new day.

Lynne Meadow said, “I’m thrilled and very proud to be bringing this moving and heroic story of human experience by one of our great American playwrights to a Broadway stage following its acclaimed run off-Broadway in 2017, which was also directed by the brilliant Anne Kauffman. I’m equally pleased and honored to give Rachel McAdams her Broadway debut after audiences have enjoyed her many renowned performances on film. As a great fan of all three of these fabulous artists, I so look forward to sharing Mary Jane with our audiences.”

Further casting, creatives and ticket information to be announced.

Mary Jane will begin previews on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).
