Heathers The Musical to close as scheduled in September

Hit show Heathers The Musical at The Other Palace theatre in London has confirmed that it will close on 3 September 2023, when its current booking period ends.

The show started at The Other Palace in 2018 before transferring into the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket later that year.

It scooped Best New Musical at the 2019 What’s On Stage Awards, before heading back to the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2021, and then its current home at The Other Palace.

The show stars Miracle Chance (Be More Chill) as Veronica Sawyer and George Renshaw (South Pacific) as Jason ‘JD’ Dean, with Olivia Barnett-Legh as Heather Chandler, Kia Paris Walcott (Millennials) as Heather Duke, and Katharine Pearson (Back To The Future) as Heather McNamara.

The cast is completed by Katie Ramshaw (Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella) as Martha Dunnstock, Sebastian Harwood (Eugenius!) as Kurt Kelly, Cristian Zaccarini (Grease) as Ram Sweeney, Rachel Breeze (La Boheme) as Ms Fleming, Alexander McMorran (Little Women) as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach, Alexander Service (Come From Away) as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan with Elliot David Parkes (Heathers) as Beleaguered Geek, Carly Burns (Blood Brothers) as Midwestern Surfer Punk, Georgia Anderson (Hairspray) as New Wave Party Girl, Sophie Hutchinson (The Addams Family) as Drama Club Drama Queen, Georgia Iudica-Davies (The Book of Mormon) as Young Republicanette, Bibi Jay (Betty Blue Eyes) as Stoner Chick and Lewis Asquith (Heathers) as Hipster Dork.

Heathers has a book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, based on the cult movie, and is directed by Andy Fickman. Other creatives on the show include choreography by Gary Lloyd, designs by David Shields, lighting by Ben Cracknell, sound by Dan Samson, the assistant choreographer is Chris Parkinson.

Andy Fickman – who is also a Hollywood director as well as theatre director – recently presented his new musical Halls – A Development Production at the Turbine Theatre in London, run by Paul Taylor-Mills – who also runs The Other Palace for owner Bill Kenwright.

Taylor-Mills and Kenwright are also producers of Heathers.

The UK and Ireland Tour of Heathers is carrying on in the autumn, ending at the New Wimbledon Theatre on 28 October 2023.

It’s unclear what will play The Other Palace after Heathers on 3 September, but Bill Kenwright has a number of shows playing or touring, including Frank and Percy starring Roger Allam and Ian McKellen, Twelve Angry Men starring Patrick Duffy, Calendar Girls The Musical UK tour, a new UK tour of hit musical Blood Brothers, and Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove in Alone Together.
