Reports are coming in that Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) is working on a new musical.
The multi Olivier, Tony and Grammy award winner is adapting Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel The Warriors, which became a cult 70’s action thriller movie directed by Walter Hill.
This would be the first show Lin-Manuel has created since mega-hit Hamilton, which is now playing in London at the Victoria Palace Theatre.
Set in New York, The Warriors is about a New York City street gang who are framed for the murder of another gang leader, and have to travel 30 miles across New York to their home in south Brooklyn.
The 1979 film had original music by composers including Barry De Vorzon and Joe Walsh.
Miranda’s first musical was 2008 show In the Heights, which scored a Best Musical Tony Award. His other credits include Freestyle Love Supreme, Bring It On: The Musical, the 2009 revival of West Side Story, the soundtracks for animated movies Moana, Vivo and Encanto, and contributing lyrics to big Broadway musical New York, New York, which closed last month on Broadway after a short run.
This news was first reported by the New York Post.
