To say that the new movie adaptation of stage smash Les Miserables is anticipated, does not do justice to the art of anticipation!
Millions of people around the world have already enjoyed the stage musical – clocking up 43 countries and over 300 cities during the last 26 years of its life – to become officially crowned the world’s longest running musical.
So when the show’s producer Cameron Mackintosh announced that a movie version of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel was to be green lit, there was tremendous interest in the project.
The Working Title and Universal Studios production is helmed by Oscar-winning The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper, and features an all-star (to put it mildly!) cast including Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Sacha Baron Cohen as Thernardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier.
The movie’s release date is 25 December 2012.
