Initial casting has been announced for the London production of hit Broadway musical A Strange Loop at the Barbican Theatre.
A Strange Loop is running at the Barbican for a 12-week limited season from 17 June to 9 September 2023.
Kyle Ramar Freeman (Once on This Island), is set to make his West End debut as Usher, a role he played on Broadway. Usher is a young, gay, Black writer who hates his day job, so writes a musical about a young, gay, Black writer who’s writing a musical about a young, gay, Black writer.
Kyle will be joined on stage by a British cast of six Thoughts – the physical manifestation of Usher’s internal monologue: Olivier nominated Jason Pennycooke (Hamilton), Sharlene Hector (Basement Jaxx), Danny Bailey (Jesus Christ Superstar, Girl From the North Country), Eddie Elliott (Blues for an Alabama Sky, The Lion King), and Tendai Humphrey Sitima (The Play That Goes Wrong).
Further casting will be announced soon.
Michael R. Jackson’s A Strange Loop was a smash-hit on Broadway, winning the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2020, and was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, winning every Best Musical award in New York.
