London’s Bush Theatre has announced their Summer / Autumn season for 2023.
The new season from Artistic director Lynette Linton features a new Bush Theatre commission, the return of two popular shows and the Edinburgh Fringe First winning hit show Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going To Happen starring Samuel Barnett.
The season opens with the world premiere of AJ Yi’s A Playlist for the Revolution, a new Bush commission directed by Emily Ling Williams. Running from 23 June to 5 August, the play tells the story of two young people falling in love and fighting to survive in Hong Kong amidst the largest demonstrations in the city’s history.
Following this, Red Pitch, a hit production written by award winner Tyrell Williams and directed by Daniel Bailey, returns to the stage. The play explores the impact of gentrification versus regeneration on London’s communities, following the story of three football-obsessed teenagers. Kedar Williams-Stirling, Emeka Sesay, and Francis Lovehall will reprise their roles in the production, which won the Off West End Award for Best New Play in 2022. Red Pitch runs from 7-30 September.
In addition to Red Pitch, Elephant, a critically acclaimed semi-biographical piece by Anoushka Lucas (known for her work in Oklahoma!), will also make its return to the stage. The show runs from October 14th to November 4th, directed once again by Jess Edwards.
The season will also feature Samuel Barnett in Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going To Happen, which will make its first London run at the Bush Theatre following an acclaimed debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Written by Marcelo Dos Santos and directed by Matthew Xia, the award-winning show will play from 10 November to 23 December.
About to start at the Bush Theatre is August in England, starring Lenny henry, which runs from 28 April to 10 June 2023.
