Funny Girl to close on Broadway

The Broadway revival of Funny Girl has announced it will close on Sunday 3 September; it will have played 30 previews and 599 performances at the August Wilson Theatre in New York.

The production stars Lea Michelle, Ramin Karimloo, Jared Grimes, and Tovah Feldshuh who have all extended their contracts to see out the show. Lea’s performance in Funny Girl has garnered great reviews and packed houses for the show which originally opened to less than positive reviews with Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch heading up the cast.

Funny Girl is directed by Michael Mayer, reuniting with Lea after their famous Broadway production of Spring Awakening. The show also has a new book by Broadway royalty Harvey Fierstein, based on the original by Isobel Lennart. The show’s music is by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Bob Merrill.

A national tour will launch in September 2023, with casting to be announced.
