Queen musical We Will Rock You has announced principle casting ahead of its summer 2023 run in the West End.
Brenda Edwards is set to star as Killer Queen in the show, a role she has already successfully played in London and on tour; and Any Dream Will Do winner Lee Mead (Holby City) will play Khashoggi.
Joining them will be Ian McIntosh (The Commitments) as Galileo Figaro, and Elena Skye (Kinky Boots, Les Miserables) as Scaramouche.
This brand new production of We Will Rock You, which has a book by Ben Elton and features the music of Queen, will play the London Coliseum this summer, from 2 June to 27 August 2023.
The show first premiered 20 years ago at the Dominion Theatre in May 2002 and was an immediate hit, running for over 12 years until May 2014.
We Will Rock You features over 24 of Queen’s greatest hits including “We Are The Champions”, “Radio Ga Ga”, “I Want To Break Free”, “Somebody To Love”, “Killer Queen”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Under Pressure”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites The Dust” and “We Will Rock You”.
Director and writer of the show Ben Elton said in a press statement: “I’m thrilled that the wildly talented Brenda Edwards and Lee Mead are starring in We Will Rock You. They’re guaranteed to blow your mind and after that they’ll blow the roof off!”
Brenda Edwards said: “I’m delighted to be stepping back into the shoes of the legendary Killer Queen and this time at the iconic London Coliseum! I can’t wait to work with Ben again, the hugely talented Lee Mead and the rest of the amazing company.”
Lee Mead said: “I’m so excited to be joining the cast of We Will Rock and can’t wait to bring Queen’s legendary songs back to the London stage. We start rehearsing in April – bring it on!”
