Derry Girls’ Kathy Kiera Clarke to star in The Dry House at Marylebone Theatre

The Marylebone Theatre in London has revealed casting for its forthcoming world premiere production of Eugene O’Hare’s play The Dry House.

Kathy Kiera Clarke, best known for playing Aunt Sarah in hit TV series Derry Girls, is set to star in the show as Claire, alongside an all-female cast that includes Mairead McKinley (Edge of Tomorrow, Molly’s Way) as Claire’s sister Chrissy, and Carla Langley (The Ferryman, Carnival Row) as Chrissy’s daughter Heather.

The play starts on 31 March 2023, running until 6 May 2023.

The Dry House is billed as a darkly comic redemptive play about love, loss and the possibility of hope after years of self-destruction.

The story follows sisters Chrissy and Claire, as they attempt to overcome the devastating impact of alcoholism on their family. In County Down, Ireland, Chrissy promises Claire that after one final drink she will go to the Dry House to get sober, but Claire doubts she means it this time. Family and booze combine in this powerful and timely exploration of grief, family, addiction – and the immense and redemptive power of hope.

The play is written and directed by Eugene O’Hare, with Lighting Design by Robbie Butler, Sound Design by Esther Kehinde Ajayi, Scenography by Niall McKeever, and Casting by Ginny Schiller.

The Derry Girls are taking over the West End this year, with Derry Girls’ Siobhán McSweeney also about to star in a show – the National Theatre’s revival of Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa from 6 April, also with Derry Girls fellow stars Louisa Harland and Ardal O’Hanlon.
