The Menier Chocolate Factory has announced a starry cast for its forthcoming UK première of Jordan Harrison’s Marjorie Prime.
The cast features Olivier and Evening Standard Award winner Nancy Carroll (After the Dance) as Tess, stage and screen star Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax, The Mother) as Marjorie, Tony Jayawardena (The Father and The Assassin, England People Very Nice, East is East) as Jon, and Richard Fleeshman (Company, Ghost The Musical) as Walter.
The play is directed by award-winner Dominic Dromgoole as part of his Classic Spring theatre company. He was Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe from 2006 to 2016.
Marjorie Prime runs from the 3 March at the Menier, playing until 6 May 2023.
Joining Dominic Dromgoole in the creative team is Set & Costume Designer Jonathan Fensom, and Lighting Designer Emma Chapman.
Jordan Harrison’s play explores the mysteries of human identity and the limits – if any – of what technology can replace. 85 year old Marjorie, who has a jumble of disparate, fading memories, has a handsome new companion who’s programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. What would we remember, and what would we forget, if given the chance?
Jordan Harrison was a 2015 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Marjorie Prime. The play premièred at the Mark Taper Forum/Center Theater Group in Los Angeles in September 2014 and had its New York premiere at Playwrights Horizons.
Currently playing at the Menier Chocolate Factory is Alex Edelman: Just for Us, until 26 February 2023.
