Hit West End musical Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London has hit a new milestone.
The show has become the 12th longest-running show in West End theatre history!
Wicked has overtaken Chicago, which ended its West End run with 6,187 performances. Wicked hit the 6,188 milestone on 16 December 2022 – making it the 8th longest-running musical and the 12th longest-running West End show!
In September Wicked celebrated its 16th birthday (27 September 2022), having opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on 27 September 2006. It also celebrated its 6,000 performance in the West End in July 2022.
Wicked is based on the bestselling book by Gregory Maguire and takes a new look at the characters from L. Frank Baum’s classic tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The show centres on Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West, following the journey of the two college friends as they navigate the events and choices that shape their destinies.
A major new Wicked movie (actually two movies) are currently in production based on the musical, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

A new London cast is set to take over from 7 March 2023, including Alexia Khadime as Elphaba and The Phantom of the Opera star Lucy St. Louis as Glinda.
Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Enchanted), is written by Emmy and Tony Award nominee Winnie Holzman, and based on the bestselling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. Musical staging is by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento with direction by two-time Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello.
