The cast has been announced for new play The Way Old Friends Do.
The show will have its world premiere at Birmingham Rep on 17 February, running to 4 March 2023. The show will then tour the UK, including a run at the Park Theatre in London from 15 March to 15 April 2023.
The show will star Ian Hallard (The Boys in the Band), who also wrote the play, alongside Donna Berlin (Doctors), James Bradshaw (Endeavour), Sara Crowe (Olivier Award winner for Private Lives), Andrew Horton (Jupiter’s Legacy) and Rose Shalloo (Call The Midwife). The play also features the voices of Miriam Margolyes and Paul O’Grady.
Directed by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Dracula, Doctor Who, The League of Gentlemen), The Way Old Friends Do promises to be a tender, uplifting, laugh-out-loud show about two school friends in the 80’s who come out to one another: one as gay, the other – more shockingly – as an ABBA fan!
Alongside Mark Gatiss, the creative team includes Set & Costume Designer Janet Bird, Lighting Designer Andrew Exeter, Sound Designer Ben Harrison, Casting Director Marc Frankum and Assistant Director Gavin Joseph.
Mark Gatiss is currently directing new West End comedy The Unfriend at the Criterion Theatre starring Reece Shearsmith, Amanda Abbington and Frances Barber, which starts its run on 15 January 2023.
The Way Old Friends Do is produced by Birmingham Rep and James Seabright.
