Samira Wiley

American actress Samira Wiley recently made her London stage debut in Blues for an Alabama Sky at the National Theatre.

She is best known for her starring role as Poussey Washington in the Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black (2013–2019) and as Moira in the Hulu dystopian drama series The Handmaid’s Tale (2017–present), for which she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Wiley had starring roles in films including The Sitter (2011), Nerve (2016), Detroit (2017), and Social Animals (2018). She also narrated the Netflix documentary Night on Earth (2020).

In addition to Orange Is the New Black and The Handmaid’s Tale she has appeared in the following tv series Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television, Explained, Drunk History, Love, Death & Robots, Will & Grace, Night on Earth and Equal.

Her theatre credits include Antigone in Ferguson (Gatehouse Theatre / Harlem Stage), Dangerous House (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Daphne’s World (The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre) and Love’s Labor’s Lost (The Public Theater). 

Blues For An Alabama Sky runs 28 September 2022 until 5 November 2022 in the Olivier Theatre, National Theatre London.
