Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Phantom of the Opera) led the West End’s tribute to The Queen tonight, Saturday 4 June 2022, at the BBC’s Platinum Party at the Palace.
Held outside Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 70th year of Her Majesty’s reign, the BBC extravaganza included a West End Theatre segment led by Lloyd Webber.
Lloyd Webber brought on special guest Lin-Manuel Miranda, composer of Hamilton, and the duo sang together at the piano – reworking numbers from Jesus Christ Superstar and Hamilton.
Fabulous sequences from a number of hit West End musicals followed, including performances from the cast of Hamilton, Disney’s The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, and Six The Musical.
Jason Donovan also made a surprise appearance performing “Any Dream Will Do” from Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. For the Phantom performance, Killian Donnelly and Lucy St Louis, current stars of the show at Her Majesty’s Theatre, performed.
