Rehearsal images are in for The Southbury Child starring Alex Jennings.
Stephen Beresford’s funny new play is a deeply humane exploration of family, faith, tradition and tolerance in a rapidly changing world. When David Highland (Alex Jennings) – sharp witted, wilful and frequently drunk – takes a conscientious stand against the wishes of a parishioner he find himself dangerously isolated from public opinion.
A three-time Olivier award-winner Alex Jennings is known for his many tv appearances including Edward VIII, the Duke of Windsor, in the Netflix series The Crown acting opposite Claire Foy; as Prince Charles in Stephen Frears’ film The Queen (2006) opposite Helen Mirren; the ITV series Victoria (2016–2019) opposite Jenna Coleman; and Stephen Frears’ A Very English Scandal (2018) alongside Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw.
Joining Jennings in The Southbury Child are Holly Atkins, Josh Finan, Jack Greenlees, Hermione Gulliford, Jo Herbert, Phoebe Nicholls, Racheal Ofori and Sarah Twomey.
Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the production features Set designs by Mark Thompson, costume design by Yvonne Milnes, sound design by George Dennis and lighting design by Max Narula.
The Southbury Child will run at Chichester Festival Theatre from 13 to 25 June 2022, with press night on 17 June and then at the Bridge Theatre from 1 July to 27 August 2022.
