Canceled: Timothée Chalamet & Eileen Atkins led 4000 Miles at the Old Vic Theatre

The much delayed Old Vic production of Amy Herzog’s Pulitzer Prize for Drama nominated play 4000 Miles starring Timothée Chalamet & Eileen Atkins has been cancelled.

Originally planned to begin performances April 6, 2020, and ultimately postponed to summer 2022, it is now canned, according to an email sent by the theatre to ticket holders.

“Following its postponement due to the pandemic, and despite an enormous amount of effort from all involved, we have now sadly and reluctantly concluded that we are unable to reschedule the show at a time possible for everyone involved,” the notice reads. “It’s been a long journey to get to this point and despite two years of trying hard to make it work, it has proved impossible. We’re sorry not to have better news, and we want to thank you for your continued patience and understanding.”

The Dune and Call Me By Your Name star was due to make his London stage debut as Leo, a 21-year-old boy who unexpectedly turns up at the door of his 91-year-old grandmother, played by Atkins, seeking solace after he suffers a major loss.

Herzog’s dramatic comedy was to be directed by Matthew Warchus with design by Rob Howell, lighting by Hugh Vanstone and sound by Simon Baker.

Tickets have been automatically converted into vouchers for future ticket sales however the venue is asking ticket holders to consider donating the cost of their ticket back to the theatre, which was severely financially impacted by the pandemic enforced shutdown.
