Dolly Parton loves Kristin Chenoweth so much she wants to cast her in the musical version of her life.
Country superstar Dolly Parton has long dreamt of writing a Broadway musical about her fascinating life story; but Covid may have put that on hold.
She told Mr. Nashville Talks that she had intended to stage a musical biography about her life on Broadway, but is now thinking about a movie musical instead.
Dolly Parton said: “We were talking about doing my Broadway musical and we were really, really far out ahead of that, and then Covid hit and that changed my mind about a whole lot of things”.
For a film musical, her career has been so long that she thinks there will have to be at least three Dollys! “We’d probably have to have – as long as my career has been – like, a little Dolly and a middle Dolly and then the older one,” she said.
And Kristin Chenoweth is her first choice! “She’s just absolutely fantastic”, Dolly said.
Dolly has musical theatre form, having written the music and lyrics to fabulous movie-to-stage show 9 to 5 The Musical, which premiered in Los Angeles in September 2008, and opened on Broadway in April 2009.
