Harry Haddon-Paton to reprise his Broadway role of Henry Higgins; Vanessa Redgrave to play Mrs Higgins; and Sharif Afifi as Freddy Eynsford-Hill.
British actress Amara Okereke has been cast as Eliza Doolittle in the forthcoming West End revival of Bartlett Sher’s acclaimed Broadway production of My Fair Lady, which opens at the London Coliseum in May 2022.
Amara Okereke was last seen in London in the acclaimed production of Spring Awakening at the Almedia Theatre in December 2021. She won The Stage Awards 2018 Debut Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Les Misérables. Other credits include The Boyfriend at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Oklahoma! at Chichester Festival Theatre and 13 The Musical.
Harry Haddon-Paton will reprise his Tony and Grammy Award nominated Broadway role as Henry Higgins. At 40 years old, Haddon-Patton is one of the youngest actors to take on the role in a major West End or Broadway production.
The cast will also feature British theatre royalty Dame Vanessa Redgrave as Henry’s mother, Mrs Higgins; Anglo-Egyptian actor Sharif Afifi as Freddy Eynsford-Hill; and Maureen Beattie as Mrs Pearce.
The Broadway transfer will mark the first West End revival of Lerner and Lowes classic musical in over two decades. Tickets for My Fair Lady at the London Coliseum are now on sale.
Sher’s glorious production at the Lincoln Center Theatre in 2018 ran for over 500 performances and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards. That production starred Harry Hadden-Paton as Henry Higgins alongside Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) in the role of Eliza Doolittle. It also featured the last stage appearance of Dame Diana Rigg as Higgin’s mothers.
My Fair Lady will play a limited 16-week engagement at the Coliseum opening on 7 May 2022 and playing through to 27 August 2022.
Directed by Bartlett Sher (The King and I, To Kill A Mockingbird), this sumptuous West End revival will feature the English National Opera orchestra playing Frederick Loewe’s iconic score with a smashing company performing those classic songs I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me to the Church on Time, The Rain in Spain, and I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.
My Fair Lady is based on Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion and has book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe.
