The Glow Royal Court Theatre

Casting announced for The Glow at London’s Royal Court theatre

Casting has been announced for Alistair McDowall’s new play The Glow which opens at the Royal Court Theatre in January 2022.

Directed by the Royal Court Theatre’s Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone, the cast will feature Fisayo Akinade (Atlanta, A Very English Sex Scandal, Fresh Meat), Rakie Ayola (No Offence, Vera, King Lear), Tadhg Murphy (Vikings, The Northman, Wrath of Man) and Ria Zmitrowicz (Mr Selfridge, Whitechapel).

Alistair McDowall hit upon a rich, dark seam of magical realism (or surrealism) with his last two plays, the audacious, Lovecraftian Pomona and the brain-melting sci-fi X. Next up is a drama about a mysterious young Victorian woman with astonishing powers. Set in 1863, The Glow follows a young woman with no memory who is plucked from an asylum to serve as the assistant to a spiritualist medium, a course of action which unlocks both her past and new powers.

The production has set design by Merle Hensel, lighting design by Jessica Hung Han Yun, composition and sound design by Nick Powell, video design by Tal Rosner and movement direction from Malik Nashad Sharpe. The associate costume designer is Helen Lovett Johnson and the assistant director is Rosie Thackeray.

The Glow by Alistair McDowall will run in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from Friday 21 January 2022 – Saturday 5 March 2022 with press night onThursday 27 January 2022, 7pm. There will be a post-show talk with Alistair McDowall on Tuesday 8 February 2022.
