One of London’s highest profile theatre awards – the Evening Standard Theatre Awards – are to return in November 2022 after a two year break.
Evening Standard chief executive Charles Yardley told The Stage newspaper this week that “with the return of the Theatre Awards, it will be a great honour to welcome back London’s brightest and boldest actors, writers, producers, directors and designers for an evening to celebrate their creative achievements over the past two years.”
Due to COVID the Standard has paused the Awards for two years, but did set up the Evening Standard Future Theatre Fund last year to support 12emerging theatre artists across different disciplines.
Yardley explained: “The past 18 months have been challenging for many sectors. In the absence of last year’s Theatre Awards, we created the Evening Standard Future Theatre Fund, in partnership with the TikTok and the National Youth Theatre, to continue our support of the next generation of theatremakers.”
There’s no news on exactly when the Awards will be held or the venue at this stage.
The Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2019 awards at the London Coliseum saw winners include Maggie Smith, Andrew Scott, Anne-Marie Duff and Bunny Christie.
