What is Blood Brothers about?

Blood Brothers is a musical that tells the captivating and moving tale of twins separated at birth, who grow up on the opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with tragic consequences.  It features an acclaimed score, with songs including Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the hit song Tell Me It’s Not True.

Blood Brothers began life as a play staged at a Liverpool comprehensive school in 1981, before opening at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1983 and going on to the West End and Broadway. It originally opened at the Albery Theatre (now the Noel Coward Theatre) on 27 August 1988, closing on 16 November 1991 and moving to the Phoenix Theatre, where it ran from 21 November 1991 to 10 November 2012.

The much-loved musical was the winner of four Best Musical awards in London and was nominated for seven Tony Award on Broadway, and surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End – one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone.  Its writer, Russell, is also known for Educating Rita, remains one of Britain’s most enduring contemporary dramatists, and this tale of class, fate and family has lost none of its emotional power more than four decades on.
