The Broadway star joins Ferguson’s acclaimed Truman Capote for the London run of Jay Presson Allen’s play, directed by Rob Ashford.

Charlotte d’Amboise has joined multi-award-winning Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Jay Presson Allen’s play Tru, it’s been announced today. The production, directed by Rob Ashford and staged at the Menier Chocolate Factory, previews on 19th September before opening on 27 September and running until 14 November, following a critically acclaimed New York run earlier this year.

D’Amboise is a mainstay of the Broadway stage, with a career spanning more than three decades since her debut in Cats. A two-time Tony nominee, she was recognised for her performances as Cassie in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line and in multiple roles in Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, and has won numerous Fred Astaire Awards across her career, for Fastrada in Pippin, Charity in Sweet Charity and Lola in Damn Yankees.

She’s best known for her long-running turn as Roxie Hart in Chicago, a performance that earned her the LA Ovation Award, the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award and the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award.

Tru at the Menier

Set in December 1975, Tru finds Truman Capote alone in his New York apartment, reeling from a crisis that cost him the friendship of the elite social circle he adored. Drawn entirely from Capote’s own words, the play is a funny and heartbreaking portrait of an artist at his breaking point, confronting the consequences of his most scandalous work. First staged in 1989, this new production was developed by Ashford, Ferguson and d’Amboise in March at the House of the Redeemer’s library in New York City, and arrives at the Menier as The Producers approaches the end of its West End run at the Garrick Theatre.

Ferguson, the Tony Award-winning star of Modern Family, is currently playing King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar at the London Palladium, having previously made his West End debut in Stephen Sondheim’s final work, Here We Are, at the National Theatre. D’Amboise, a two-time Tony nominee, has spent decades on Broadway, including as Roxie Hart in Chicago and Cassie in the revival of A Chorus Line, alongside credits in Cats, Company and Contact.

The creative team includes set designer Paul Farnsworth, costume designer Jaimal Odedra, lighting designer Jamie Platt and sound designer Adam Cork.
