Charlie Burn and Ashley Gilmour lead the long-awaited UK premiere of Jane Eyre, John Caird and Paul Gordon’s five-time Tony-nominated musical, at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
Production images have been released for the UK premiere of Jane Eyre, John Caird and Paul Gordon’s musical adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s novel, now playing at Southwark Playhouse Elephant until 24 October 2026.
Charlie Burn stars as Jane, opposite Ashley Gilmour as Rochester, in a cast that also includes Claire Greenway, Melad Hamidi, Connor Wood, Jonathan Andrew Hume, Izzi Levine, Hannah Lindsey, Isabelle Methven, Gemma Page and Eve Shanu-Wilson, with Poppy Jason and Emily-Rose Samuel sharing the roles of Young Jane and Adele.
Five-time Tony nominated, Jane Eyre first premiered in Toronto in 1996 before transferring to Broadway in 2000, and now arrives in the UK for the first time in its 30th anniversary year. A story of ambition, independence, gothic mystery and passionate love, it reimagines Brontë’s revolutionary novel (and its heroine, often considered the first feminist literary icon) for a 21st-century audience, set to a sweeping score.
The production is co-directed by John Caird, the RSC and National Theatre director who previously co-directed the original West End and Broadway production of Les Misérables and, most recently, the acclaimed Spirited Away at the London Coliseum, alongside Broadway’s Megan McGinnis (Beauty and the Beast, Little Women, Beetlejuice). The creative team also includes choreographer Georgina Lamb, set and costume designer Morgan Large, sound designer Andrew Johnson and lighting designer James Whiteside.
Ahead of the production, an EP featuring highlights from the UK premiere cast is now available to stream, alongside a music video for the song Sirens.
