Book now for the first major West End revival of Tracy Letts‘ Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning modern classic August: Osage County, starring two-time Olivier Award winner Lesley Manville and two-time BAFTA winner Anna Maxwell Martin, directed by Jeremy Herrin at the Noël Coward Theatre.

One of the defining plays of the 21st century returns to the West End in a landmark new production. August: Osage County plays a strictly limited 12-week season at the Noël Coward Theatre from 18 January to 10 April 2027 in its first major London revival in almost two decades.

Leading the company is Lesley Manville (Oedipus, The Crown, Phantom Thread), the two-time Olivier Award winner and 2026 Tony Award winner, as the family’s fearsome, pill-addicted matriarch Violet Weston. She is joined by two-time BAFTA winner Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland, Until I Kill You, His Dark Materials) as Violet’s eldest daughter Barbara Fordham, in what promises to be one of the great acting face-offs of the West End year.

Directed by Jeremy Herrin, whose award-winning work includes People, Places and Things, Wolf Hall and Best of Enemies, this is Tracy Letts’ blistering, darkly funny and devastating family drama performed by a major ensemble, a genuine theatrical event for anyone who loves great American writing at its most fearless.

What to expect

Expect a searing, epically entertaining family drama that swings between pitch-black comedy and shattering emotional truth. Across a single sweltering Oklahoma summer, three generations of the Weston family tear strips off one another in an unflinching portrait of addiction, resentment and long-buried secrets. Blistering, funny and deeply moving in equal measure, it’s a modern masterpiece packed with unforgettable characters and explosive confrontations.

Book August: Osage County tickets

August: Osage County plays a strictly limited 12-week season at the Noël Coward Theatre from 18 January to 10 April 2027, with press night on 26 January. With two of the UK’s finest actors leading the first major revival of a modern classic, demand is expected to be exceptionally high: early booking is strongly recommended, particularly for weekend and peak performances.

When the patriarch of the Weston family suddenly disappears, his fiercely dysfunctional family gathers back at the old family home in rural Oklahoma. Presiding over them is Violet, the sharp-tongued, pill-addicted matriarch — and as three generations are forced back under one roof in the sweltering August heat, old wounds reopen, alliances shift, and a lifetime of buried secrets comes explosively to the surface.

By turns savagely funny and profoundly moving, August: Osage County is an unflinching portrait of family life at its most raw. Across three acts of blistering dialogue and unforgettable confrontations, Tracy Letts lays bare the resentments, addictions and betrayals that bind a family together and threaten to tear it apart.

Widely regarded as one of the defining plays of the 21st century, it was first performed by Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2007 before triumphant runs on Broadway — where it won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play — and at London’s National Theatre. In 2013 it was adapted into a film directed by John Wells, with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts both earning Academy Award nominations. This production marks its first major revival in the West End.
