The Almeida Theatre has announced its full cast for Golden Boy, the searing revival of Clifford Odets’ American classic starring BAFTA winner Josh O’Connor.
Joining the previously announced O’Connor (The Crown, Challengers) in the much-anticipated production of Golden Boy are Jason Barnett, Richard Fleeshman, David Ganly, Patrick Martins, Daniel Mays, Oliver Ryan, Hayley Squires, Stanley Townsend, Zubin Varla and Nicholas Woodeson.
Directed by Olivier Award winner Sam Yates (Vanya), the production runs at the Almeida from 9 September to 31 October 2026, with a press night on 15 September. Tickets are on sale now.

A starry company
The production assembles a formidable ensemble of stage and screen talent around O’Connor.
Daniel Mays, an Olivier nominee for Guys and Dolls, brings credits including Line of Duty and 1917, Hayley Squires, Olivier-nominated for All My Sons, is known for I, Daniel Blake and The Essex Serpent and Olivier Award winner Zubin Varla (Tammy Faye) and the acclaimed Stanley Townsend (Girl from the North Country) further strengthen the company.
Richard Fleeshman, an Olivier nominee for Company, completes a cast brimming with award-recognised performers.
For Josh O’Connor, fresh from his film successes in Challengers and La Chimera, the role marks a major return to the London stage. He reunites with director Sam Yates, whose recent production of Vanya won the Olivier, Outer Critics’ Circle and WhatsOnStage Awards for Best Revival.
About Golden Boy
Set in 1930s New York at the height of the Depression, Golden Boy follows Joe Bonaparte, a gifted young violinist with a future in music, until the lure of fame and fortune draws him into the brutal world of professional boxing.
Pressured by a ruthless manager, tempted by a forbidden love and bound by the expectations of his Italian-American family, Joe is torn between the seductive promise of the American Dream and the quiet honour of a decent life, forced to confront what he is willing to sacrifice and who he is willing to become.
Brought to life with a live string quartet, this propulsive drama explores ambition, identity and the high price of success. The creative team includes set and costume designer Rosanna Vize, lighting designer James Farncombe, composer Isobel Waller-Bridge and movement director Imogen Knight.
