Check out new production photos for The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind @sohoplace in London.
After a highly-praised run at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind has opened its West End transfer @sohoplace and has just released production photos from the venue.
Telling the true story of William Kamkwamba, a 13-year-old boy from Malawi who built a windmill to save his village, armed only with library books and scraps of machinery. Drawing on Kamkwamba’s memoir, it’s a compelling blend of live music, movement and storytelling combined into an uplifiting story.
Alistair Nwachukwu (Choir Boy, The Line of Beauty) leads the cast as William, joined by Madeline Appiah, Tsemaye Bob-Egbe and Sifiso Mazibuko.
The production is directed by Lynette Linton (Blues for an Alabama Sky) with Chiwetel Ejiofor, who wrote, directed and starred in the acclaimed 2019 Netflix film of the same name, as Executive Producer.

About the production
Lynette Linton’s production takes the core of Kamkwamba’s memoir: a story of a teenage boy who refuses to accept the limits the world has placed on him, and adds an immersive score, statement choreography and characterful storytelling to turn it into a textured work that’s had audiences gripped.
Linton, whose previous works include the much-talked about Blues from an Alabama Sky, is one of the most exciting directors working in British theatre today.
