A first-look photo has been released of Cynthia Erivo in the new film adaptation of hit West End and Broadway play Prima Facie.

The movie has now completed shooting in London, at Story Works Studios, with locations also including The Old Bailey and Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Prima Facie is produced by Australia’s Bunya Productions and the UK’s Embankment Films.

Suzie Miller (Inter Alia) has adapted her award-winning one-woman play for the film.

Directed by BAFTA-winner Susanna White (Woman Walks Ahead, Our Kind of Traitor, Andor), Prima Facie stars Olivier, Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winner Cynthia Erivo as Tessa Ensler, a brilliant young British attorney.

Prima Facie’s supporting cast includes Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen), Elizabeth Dulau (Andor), Noma Dumezweni (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso), Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful), Sarah Junillon (FBI: International), Elliot Levey (Giant), and Simon Russell Beale (House of the Dragon).

On stage, Prima Facie starred Jodie Comer, who picked up Olivier and Tony Award wins for the role. Jodie Comer is returning to the UK and Ireland stage in 2026 in a revival of Prima Facie, starting at Richmond Theatre on 23 January 2026, and then playing Dublin, Edinburgh, Cardiff, York, Bath, Canterbury, Birmingham and Liverpool. Tickets are now sold out for the tour.

Cynthia Erivo is currently promoting her role as Elphaba in new Wicked movie Wicked: For Good, which is released in cinemas on 21 November.

Cynthia is also returning to the West End stage next year, starring in Kip Williams’ new adaptation of Dracula, in a one-person show at the Noel Coward Theatre from 4 February 2026.

Suzie Miller’s new play Inter Alia recently premiered at the National Theatre starring Rosamund Pike. The production is transferring to the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre – with Rosmund Pike in the lead role – from 19 March to 20 June 2026.

Cynthia Erivo told Variety that, “as an actor and executive producer it means so much to be part of the team bringing Suzie Miller’s indelible Prima Facie from stage to screen. ‘Prima Facie’ is the manifestation of years of dreaming and putting the right pieces together to create that perfect spark. It has been a privilege to work with this crew and creative team whose collective contributions will inevitably affect the larger cultural impact of this film. Tessa Ensler’s story is that of so many and my hope is it reaches the furthest corners and cultivates conversations that help us understand and empathize with one another in ways that are especially needed for these times.”

Suzie Miller said: “Watching the realisation of my one-woman play bloom into this multi-dimensional extraordinary film material with all the characters coming to life, has blown my mind. Adding a new layer to the story means ‘Prima Facie’ will speak to all women and ignite even further conversations. Cynthia Erivo has inhabited Tessa and made her completely her own. She is an actress at the pinnacle of her talent, and we look forward to sparking change.”
