Full casting has been announced for the world premiere of Daisy Goodwin’s By Royal Appointment, starring Anne Reid and Caroline Quentin.
Directed by Dominic Dromgoole, By Royal Appointment opens at Theatre Royal Bath on 5 June 2025, and then tours to Cheltenham, Leeds, Malvern, Southampton, London Richmond, Guildford, and Salford.
Written by writer and broadcaster Daisy Goodwin (ITV’s Victoria), By Royal Appointment will star British TV royalty Anne Reid (Dinnerladies, Last Tango in Halifax) as Queen Elizabeth II, and Caroline Quentin (Dickensian, Men Behaving Badly, Jack Absolute Flies Again) as her dresser.
They are joined by Olivier Award-winner James Dreyfus (Mount Pleasant, Gimme Gimme Gimme) as The Milliner, and James Wilby (Maurice, Poldark) as The Designer.
Joining Dominic Dromgoole in the creative team are Designer Jonathan Fensom, Lighting Designer Oliver Fenwick, and Sound Designer Ella Wahlström, with further creatives to be announced.
By Royal Appointment promises to be a behind the scenes peek into the world of our most popular monarch and the image she presented to the world.
The show is billed as a funny, poignant and celebratory new play about the kind of power that only a Queen can wield, as she charms the world through coats and admonishes her family through a carefully chosen hat.
