The smash-hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia! is heading back to Broadway for a limited six-month run at the Winter Garden Theatre.
Performances will begin on 2 August 2025, with an official opening on 14 August 2025.
Judy Craymer, the show’s creator and producer, expressed her excitement, stating, “When Mamma Mia! opened on Broadway in 2001, we were overwhelmed by the love and acclaim that greeted us at the Winter Garden Theatre. Now, after celebrating 25 years in the West End, it’s truly fantastic to bring the original production back to its Broadway home after 24 years.”
Since its 1999 London premiere and 2001 Broadway debut, Mamma Mia! has become a global sensation, seen by over 70 million people worldwide and inspiring two blockbuster films. Featuring beloved ABBA hits such as “Dancing Queen,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and “Take a Chance on Me,” the musical tells the heartwarming story of a young woman’s quest to discover her father’s identity on the eve of her wedding. Last year, the London production celebrated 25 years in the West End, where it continues to play at the Novello Theatre.
With a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd, and choreography by Anthony Van Laast, Mamma Mia! remains one of the most successful jukebox musicals in theatre history. The show originally ran on Broadway for 14 years, closing in 2015 after 5,773 performances.
Casting for the revival will be announced at a later date
Mamma Mia! will run at at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway from 2 August 2025 until 1 February 2026.
The London production is currently booking at the Novello Theatre in the West End to 27 September 2025.
