New musical Austenland will be performed in the West End next month starring Lucie Jones.
The show will have two ‘workshop concerts’ in London, at the Savoy Theatre on 24 March 2025.
Based on Shannon Hale’s 2007 novel Austenland, the show has music and lyrics by Kate Anderson and Elyssa Samsel (Central Park, Between the Lines), and a book by Jodi Picoult (The Book Thief) and Timothy Allen McDonald (James and the Giant Peach).
Lucie Jones (Les Miserables, Wicked) will star as Jane Hayes in the show, an unlucky-in-love Jane Austen fan who takes a holiday to Regency England-themed Austenland.
Austenland was also turned into a 2013 movie starring Keri Russell and Jennifer Coolidge.
Further casting is to be announced.

Directed by Jonathan O’Boyle (Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical; Barnum), the creative team also includes choreography by Joanna Goodwin; musical supervision, orchestration and arrangements by Matthew Malone; musical direction by Natalie Pound; set and costume design by Polly Sullivan; lighting design by Jack Weir; and sound design by Sound Quiet Time.
The show also had a January 2024 industry reading in New York, starring Arielle Jacobs (Here Lies Love).
Co-Librettists Jodi Picoult and Timothy Allen McDonald said in a statement: “In today’s world, we need some joy — which is why we wanted to create a musical that was a wink to Pride and Prejudice in a post-Bridgerton world. Austenland is a delightful escape for anyone who’s ever pined over Mr. Darcy… or for anyone who’s never understood his appeal. We promise songs that you’ll sing in the shower for weeks, laugh-out-loud jokes, and a reminder that everyone deserves a grand romance.”
Austenland in Concert is playing at the Savoy Theatre on 24 March 2025, at 3pm and 7.30pm.
Lucie Jones is currently starring in Les Miserables at the Sondheim Theatre in London, until 15 February 2025.
