Casting has been announced for Midnight Cowboy – A New Musical, coming to London this spring.

Based on the cult novel and movie, Midnight Cowboy – A New Musical will play at Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 4 April to 17 May 2025.

The show will feature EastEnders star Max Bowden (Waterloo Road, Birdsong) as Rico ‘Ratzo’ Rizzo, Paul Jacob French (Grease, An Officer and a Gentleman) as Joe Buck, and Here We Go’s Tori Allen-Martin (I Wish You Well: The Gwyneth Paltrow Ski-Trial Musical, London Kills) as Cass.

The show also stars Christian Maynard (Miss Saigon) as Tombaby, Elena Breschi (Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World) as Delores, Joanne Henry (Bridgerton) as Grandma Sally, Nick Len (Wicked) as Swing, Hollie-Ann Lowe (Burlesque The Musical) as Swing, Dean Makowski-Clayton (Little Fiend) as Student, Phoebe Roberts (Grease) as Chalkline Annie, Tim Rogers (An Officer and a Gentleman) as Woodsy Niles, Rohan Tickell (Rock of Ages) as Mr O’Daniel, and Matthew White (The Mousetrap) as Towny.

Midnight Cowboy - Casting

Set in New York, Midnight Cowboy is based on the novel by James Leo Herlihy and the Oscar-winning 1969 film starring Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman, and explores the depths of friendship and ambition between two men while trying to survive the grind of New York City.

The musical has a book by Bryony Lavery (Frozen), and music by three-time Ivor Novello Award-winning composer Francis “Eg” White, who has written songs for Adele (Chasing Pavements), Will Young (Leave Right Now), Duffy (Warwick Avenue), Sam Smith, Florence + The Machine and James Morrison.

Midnight Cowboy is directed and choreographed by Nick Winston (Burlesque the Musical, Bonnie & Clyde).

The creative team also includes musical arrangements, orchestrations and musical supervision by Charlie Ingles, set and lighting design by Andrew Exeter, costume design by Sophia Pardon, sound design by Yvonne Gilbert, creative development by Nick Winston, production management by James Anderton, musical direction by Ellie Verkerk, associate direction and choreography by Libby Watts, associate set design by Natalia Alvarez, props supervision by Katie Balmforth, costume supervision by Josh Bamling, intimacy direction by Lucy Fennell, and dialect coaching by Mary Howland.

Midnight Cowboy is playing the Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 4 April to 17 May 2025.
