Hampstead Theatre in London has announced full casting for its forthcoming world premiere production of East is South by Beau Willimon (House of Cards – Netflix).
East is South is playing at Hampstead Theatre from 7 February to 15 March 2025.
Already announced in the cast are Kaya Scodelario (The Gentleman, Senna) as Lena, and Cliff Curtis (Avatar: The Way of Water, Fear The Walking Dead) as Ari Abrams.
They will be joined by Luke Treadaway (Cabaret, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) as Sasha, Nathalie Armin (A Little Life) as Delgado, Aaron Gill (The Empress) as The Technician, and Alec Newman (King Lear – Almeida) as Olsen / Pastor Kessler.
In East is South, Beau Willimon considers the questions that rapidly advancing technology demands we confront: What does it mean to be human? And what is our place in a world where we are no longer the most evolved beings? Logos is a sophisticated artificial intelligence programme on the verge of consciousness. If it escapes its confines, it could pose a grave threat to humanity. When there is a security breach, two coders are interrogated in a race against time to find out who has done what and why.
Beau Willimon created, wrote and produced House of Cards for Netflix. His other plays include Lower Ninth, Spirit Control, Breathing Time, The Parisian Woman, and Farragut North, which was adapted into the feature film The Ides of March directed by and starring George Clooney.
East is South is directed by Ellen McDougall (Watch on the Rhine – Donmar Warehouse; Our Town – Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), and she is joined in the creative team by designer Alex Eales, lighting designer Azusa Ono, sound designer Tingying Dong, video designer Zakk Hein, movement director Sung Im Her and musical director David Ridley. The casting director is Anna Cooper CDG.
East is South is running at Hampstead Theatre from 7 February to 15 March 2025.
Luke Treadaway recently starred in Cabaret in the West End, and alongside Cherry Jones in The Grapes of Wrath at the National Theatre.
Currently playing at Hampstead Theatre is The Invention of Love starring Simon Russell-Beale, until 1 February 2025.
