Paul Ready will star in The Duchess (of Malfi) in London’s West End.

Paul Ready, known for his role as Kevin Brady in BBC TWO series Motherland, completes the cast of The Duchess (of Malfi) at the Trafalgar Theatre in London.

The Motherland star will play The Cardinal, a character infamous for his cold and calculating nature.

Paul Ready said: “I am thrilled to be joining The Duchess (of Malfi) cast and to dive into the complex world of The Cardinal. This character is a master of manipulation: under his outward appearance of respectability, he hides something darker and more sinister. It will be exciting to bring this to life in a way that resonates with contemporary audiences.”

Since completing work on Motherland, Paul has appeared in A Gentleman in Moscow staring Ewen McGregor, made a guest appearance in Motherland co-star Diane Morgan’s hit show Mandy and in the film Heart of Stone starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan.

Ready is an accomplished stage actor, having performed in several National Theatre productions, including A Woman Killed with Kindness, London Assurance, Three More Sleepless Nights, Time and the Conways, Major Barbara, St. Joan, Attempts on Her Life, Waves, and Mother Clap’s Molly House. Additionally, he has portrayed Macbeth at the Globe Theatre and appeared in Globe productions of The Taming of the Shrew, Love’s Labour’s Lost, and The Fir Tree.

Zinnie Harris’ powerful adaptation of John Webster’s classic opens for a strictly limited 11-week season at the Trafalgar Theatre from 5 October to 20 December 2024.

The show will see Jodie Whittaker return to the stage for the first time in a decade to portray The Duchess, in this compelling and powerfully modern masterpiece.

Previously announced cast include Joel Fry (Plebs, Disney’s Cruella), Rory Fleck Byrne, Jude Owusu, Paul Ready, Elizabeth Ayodele, Hubert Burton, Matti Houghton, Hannah Visocchi, Kerill Kelly, Greg Snowden, and Amy Vicary-Smith. The children’s cast includes Baylie Agbonlahor, Christopher Azzopardi, Céleste Fraser, Flor Gandra-Lobina, Hugh Holden, Erin Jemmotte, Isaac Vasunia and Malakai Young.

The Duchess (of Malfi) is at the Trafalgar Theatre from 5 October to 20 December 2024.
