The producers of the forthcoming revival of Filumena have revealed further casting.
Already announced is Felicity Kendal (Noises Off, The Good Life) as Filumena, and she will be joined by Matthew Kelly (Funny Peculiar, Cold Blood) as Don Domenico, Julie Legrand (Footballers’ Wives, Wicked) as Rosalia, and Jodie Steele (Heathers the Musical) as Diana.
The cast also includes George Banks (Coronation Street, The Mousetrap) as Michele, Gavin Fowler (RSC, Penny Dreadful) as Umberto, Jamie Hogarth (Slow Horses, Bad Education) as Alfredo, Ben Nealon (Soldier, Soldier, Twelve Angry Men) as Nocella, Lee Peck (Sleuth, Looking Good Dead) as Waiter, Fabrizio Santino (Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Hollyoaks) as Ricardo, Hilary Tones (RSC) as Teresina, Sarah Twomey (Accolade) as Lucia. Eliza Le Touzel Teale is the understudy.
Directed by Sean Mathias, the play will run at Theatre Royal Windsor from 4 to 19 October, and then tour including Guildford Yvonne Arnaud Theatre from 22 to 26 October 2024; Cambridge Arts Theatre from 5 to 9 November 2024; Bath Theatre Royal from 12 to 16 November 2024; and London’s Richmond Theatre from 19 to 23 November 2024.
Filumena is Eduardo de Filippo’s classic comedy, in an English version by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall.
Amidst the heat of a Neapolitan summer, Filumena (Felicity Kendal) lies on her deathbed, waiting to marry Domenico (Matthew Kelly), the man who has kept her as his mistress for 25 years. But no sooner than they are married, she makes a miraculous recovery, much to the surprise of her new, unwilling husband and his younger lover!
Filumena holds on to a secret from her past life, revealing one of her three grown-up sons is Domenico’s. But which one? Will he accept all three?
Filumena is produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd and the Theatre Royal Windsor. Further creatives joining Sean Matthias are to be announced.
