Riverside Studios has announced that new comedy Madwomen of the West by acclaimed American playwright Sandra Tsing Loh will receive its UK premiere this Summer 2024.
Following smash -hit runs in Los Angeles and New York, the comedy stars American TV and stage star Caroline Aaron (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Brooke Adams (Days of Heaven), Marilu Henner (Taxi) and Melanie Mayron (Thirtysomething).
All four actors reprise their performances from the Actors Temple Theatre run in December 2023 in New York.
The UK premiere is directed by Racky Plews (I’m Every Woman The Chaka Khan Musical, Footloose).
The comedy is set in a Brentwood mansion where close friends Jules, Marilyn and Claudia celebrate a birthday. As champagne corks pop, tempers flare when their long-estranged celebrity friend Zoey crashes the party, fresh from her TED Talks.
The play promises hilarity, outrageous opinions, and unexpected wisdom.
Sandra Tsing Loh is an American humourist. Her Madwomen series is based on her bestselling New York Times Top 10 Notable memoir The Madwoman in the Volvo, which also became a stage play. The award-winning writer and comedian’s other Off-Broadway hits include Aliens in America and Bad Sex with Bud Kemp.
Sandra Tsing Loh said in a statement: “Ever since falling in love with Absolutely Fabulous in the ‘90s, I’ve believed that the funniest women in the world are in London. It’s long been a dream to bring Madwomen of the West to London, and The Madwomen of the West are thrilled to be coming to west London!”
Madwomen of the West plays at the Riverside Studios from 30 July to 24 August 2024.
