Aidan Turner, Sophie Okonedo, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Jamael Westman are among the winners of the 2019 WhatsOnStage Awards.

Aidan Turner and Sophie Okonedo picked up lead acting prizes for The Lieutenant of Inishmore and Antony and Cleopatra respectively.

Carrie Hope Fletcher won Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in Heathers The Musical, with the show also winning Best New Musical, ahead of Hamilton, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Six the Musical and Eugenius!

Lin Manuel Miranda’s internationally acclaimed show Hamilton won the most awards, taking home five gongs including Best Lead and Best Supporting Actor in a musical for Jamael Westman and Jason Pennycooke respectively.

Other multiple winners included three awards for Little Shop of Horrors at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and The Inheritance and The Madness of George III, which had two apiece.

Director Michael Grandage received the award for Services to Theatre and Broadway legend Patti Lupone won Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her performance in Company.

Hosted by Vicky Vox and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith the 2019 WhatsOnStage Awards were presented on Sunday 3 March at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London.

Held annually, the WhatsOnStage Awards are entirely voted for by the public.
