West End actor Philip Quast is joining the cast of the forthcoming production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street when it comes to the London Coliseum this March.

Quast will return to the role of Judge Turpin in the show following the New York Philharmonic’s semi-staged production of Sweeney Todd earlier this year, and a 2007 concert version of the show at the Royal Festival Hall alongside Bryn Terfel.

The multi Olivier-award winning actor has credits that include Grahame Chandler in The Fix at the Donmar Warehouse, Georges Seurat in Sunday in The Park with George and Emile de Becque in South Pacific at the National, Juan Peron in Evita at the Adelphi Theatre and Georges in La Cage Aux Folles for the Menier Chocolate Factory. Quast is also famous for playing Javert in Les Misérables.

He joins Bryn Terfel as Sweeney Todd and Emma Thompson as Mrs Lovett in the show.

Also more tickets have been released for Sweeney Todd at the London Coliseum, playing for 13 shows only from 30 March to 12 April 2015.

Lonny Price’s production is the first in a new partnership between English National Opera and the GradeLinnit Company.

Sweeney Todd has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler from an adaptation by Christopher Bond.
