THE STORY
Mamma Mia! is set on a tiny Greek island that’s buzzing with preparations for the upcoming marriage of local sweetheart Sophie, daughter of the proudly single Donna. The mother, we soon find out, used to be a bit of a wild child. Though Sophie appears to have it all — a handsome fiancé, an adoring mom and the perfect spot for the world’s most picturesque wedding — one thing is missing: a father to walk her down the aisle.
Eager to learn the identity of the dad she’s never known (her mother isn’t quite sure who it is), Sophie reads Donna’s old diary and secretly sends wedding invitations to the three men her mom wrote about the year Sophie was conceived. When the men arrive on the island – none of whom have seen Donna in 20 years – a comical and touching cascade of events ensues.
