Lulu-Mae Pears, The Stage
Lulu-Mae Pears: “Every night is a standing ovation – there is no feeling like it”

After graduating last year, Lulu-Mae Pears joined the London cast of Les Misérables as Cosette, making her West End debut. She speaks to Jamie Body about starring in her dream show and her backstage rituals to get into show mode…

How did it feel to join the cast of Les Misérables?
It was a dream come true. I honestly have to pinch myself every day. I still get butterflies and get nervous every time I go on stage, which by now you’d think would have stopped. It’s crazy – it’s Les Mis! We had a five-week rehearsal period. It was interesting at the start, as it was just the joining cast in the room. But, towards the end, we had the people who were staying on join us twice a week. Once we got to the theatre, it changed the game; everything fell into place.
