A powerful new queer play
Olivier-nominated play CRUISE is now playing in the West End for a strictly limited run at the Apollo Theatre this summer.
29 February 1988. Soho. His last night on earth. The intoxicating, vibrant Cruise is the true story of what should have been Michael Spencer’s last night on earth.
Following the phenomenal success of Channel4’s It’s a Sin, Cruise is a celebration of life, queer culture and survival, this is the uplifting and inspirational theatrical event of summer 2021.
Cruise is booking from 13 August 2022 until 14 September 2022 at the Apollo Theatre, London.
What is Cruise about?
4 years at most. That’s how long Michael has been given to live.
On the last night of his countdown – the 29th February, 1988 – Michael decides to go out with a bang. He puts on his favourite jacket, heads for Soho, and embarks on a long night of farewells. He says his goodbyes to friends, enemies and strangers; old haunts, dive bars, cafes, clubs and pubs; his brothers, sisters, allies and exes. He dances, sings, and says yes to everything and everyone. Then, with all his affairs taken care of, Michael promptly… survives.
Creative team and cast
Cruise is written and performed by Jack Holden (Ten Per Cent, Amazon Prime Video; War Horse, National Theatre), directed by Bronagh Lagan (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, UK Tour; Little Women, Park Theatre), with original music composed and performed live by John Patrick Elliott (The Little Unsaid). Design is by Nik Corrall with co-design by STUFISH Entertainment Architects, lighting design by Jai Morjaria, movement by Sarah Godling and additional sound design by Max Pappenheim.
