Since opening at the Harold Pinter Theatre this March to a wave of critical acclaim, Robert Icke’s visceral reimagining of Romeo & Juliet has become the hottest ticket in the West End.

Today, a new set of behind-the-scenes photos has been released, offering a rare glimpse into the rehearsal room and backstage world of this summer’s most talked-about show.

Star-crossed star casting

The production marks a major milestone for its lead duo, both of whom are making their West End debuts in the play. Sadie Sink, the Tony-nominated star of Stranger Things and John Proctor Is The Villain, has taken on the role of Juliet, alongside Noah Jupe as Romeo, known for his haunting performances in Hamnet and A Quiet Place.

The chemistry between the two anchors Robert Icke’s production, which strips the Shakespeare classic down to its emotional bones: a chance meeting at a summer party in Verona that spirals into inevitable tragedy.

Yesterday, Robert Icke was nominated for a 2026 Tony Award for his direction and adaptation of Oedipus.

An ensemble of excellence

The world of Verona is populated by a powerhouse supporting cast, including Clare Perkins (The Wheel of Time; Player Kings, West End) as Nurse, John Marquez (Doc Martin; Pygmalion, The Old Vic) as Friar Laurence, Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D; Good Night, and Good Luck, Broadway) as Capulet, and Kasper Hilton-Hille (Dear England, Troilus & Cressida, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Friar John and Mercutio.

The production also boasts a heavyweight creative team, featuring recent 2026 Olivier Award winners Giles Thomas (Sound Design, Kenrex) and Ash J Woodward (Video Design, Paddington The Musical), alongside movement director Polly Bennett and 2026 Tony Award-nominated set and costume designer Hildegard Bechtler.
