The rumours are true! The Rainbow Tour is heading to New York, as producers have officially confirmed today that Jamie Lloyd’s award-winning revival of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita will transfer to Broadway in spring 2027.

Leading the production will be Rachel Zegler (West Side Story, Snow White), who will reprise her Olivier Award-winning performance as Eva Perón in the Broadway transfer.

The production will play at a Shubert Theatre in New York, to be announced.

POST UPDATE (27 May 2026): Evita has now been confirmed for Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre in New York, playing from 27 February 2027.

A West End phenomenon

Jamie Lloyd’s reimagining of Rice and Lloyd Webber’s 1978 musical made international headlines last summer in London, during its sold-out engagement at the London Palladium.

The production recently swept the awards season, earning Rachel Zegler the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical. The show also took home Best Musical and Best Musical Performance at The Standard Theatre Awards, alongside five WhatsOnStage Awards including Best Musical Revival.

A new vision for Broadway

While the Broadway transfer will retain the bold and inventive spirit of the London staging, director Jamie Lloyd has revealed that the New York production will feature a number of unique creative shifts.

Part of the London production’s viral success last summer was due to Rachel Zegler performing the hit song ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ outside the theatre on the balcony of the Palladium, standing in for the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires. New York won’t see that happen.

“When we started discussing a New York production, it became apparent that our Palladium staging of ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ would not be possible,” said Lloyd. “I am really excited to explore a new idea, made especially for Broadway.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber added: “It is so exciting to see Tim and my work reimagined in new ways, and the show has a generational talent in Rachel Zegler. I can’t wait for American audiences to experience a production which took the West End by storm.”

The transfer marks a busy period for Jamie Lloyd in New York, following the Tony-winning success of Sunset Boulevard and the upcoming transfer of his star-studded Much Ado About Nothing with Tom Hiddleson and Hayley Atwell.

Evita will be produced on Broadway by The Jamie Lloyd Company and Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals.

The journey of Rachel Zegler

Rachel Zegler, who made her Broadway debut in 2024 in Sam Gold’s Romeo & Juliet, has become one of the most sought-after stage and screen stars on both sides of the Atlantic.

“Performing Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s brilliant show in London was a dream come true,” said Zegler. “But being able to partner once again with Jamie to bring Evita to Broadway is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I can’t wait to perform for my home, New York City.”
