Following sold-out runs in Edinburgh, London and New York, acclaimed comedian Sam Morrison is set to bring his funny and unexpectedly romantic solo show Sugar Daddy back to London.
Sugar Daddy will play a five-week run at the Underbelly Boulevard theatre in Soho from 5 March to 4 April 2026.
This latest production comes with heavyweight backing, as stage and screen icons Alan Cumming and Billy Porter have once again joined the team as co-producers.
Sugar Daddy is the remarkable true story Morrison never wanted to write. The show recounts a summer in Provincetown where Morrison met and fell in love with Jonathan, the “sexy silver zaddy of his dreams.” Their romance was cut tragically short when Jonathan died of COVID-19 during the height of the pandemic.
Faced with unbearable loss, Morrison did the only thing he knew how to do: he mined his grief for comedy.
The result is a show that defies easy categorisation: part stand-up, part storytelling, and part “emotional excavation.” It navigates a journey that is as hilarious as it is heartbreaking, covering topics ranging from seagull attacks and New York muggers to unexpected encounters with Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The title itself is a dark wink at another twist in Morrison’s life during this period: a surprise diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes, which occurred shortly after his partner’s passing.
Directed by Stephen Brackett, the show has garnered rave reviews and high-profile fans during its previous runs.
Alan Cumming said in 2024 when first producing the show that, “Sam is an incredible performer and writer, and this show is revelatory. He tackles personal grief not just with humour but with such bold tenderness and insightful vision. It’s fresh, it’s full of heart, and it’s really dirty.”
Sugar Daddy has previously enjoyed sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Soho Playhouse in New York, and London’s Soho Theatre. This new engagement marks its first run at the Underbelly Boulevard, Underbelly’s permanent venue in the heart of Soho.
